As physios we see many clients who suffer from neck and upper back symptoms, as well as recurrent headaches. Many present with a ‘forward head posture’ where the head sits in-front of the normal alignment, thereby placing excess stresses to the neck.
As a first point of call, we take photos to show our clients how they are standing or sitting, and aim within the first session to educate them on how to their correct their posture. This will immediately start to reduce the stress on the neck and help restore normal alignment. We may also ask for photos of our client’s desk set up, and advise them on how to alter things so that it is ergonomically sound.
There is a great, simple article, explaining what forward head posture is, and the risks of not correcting it.
